RADIO VALLERI AIRCHECKS |

As mentioned previously, few recordings of Radio Valleri have survived. We have none from the early medium wave days of 1972 and unfortunately most of those from the later shortwave broadcasts are not of good quality due to a combination of variable shortwave reception conditions, receiving and recording equipment at the time. The following airchecks have been compiled from our own collections, with help from Derek Jones and Prince Terry. We would be grateful to hear from anyone who has other recordings of Radio Valleri which we may be able to use. Please e-mail us at the contact button above and we will reply as soon as we can. These files are in the dreaded .ra format or rm, so we will try to get the original tapes looked out to re record them. |
When Radio Valleri returned to the air on October 19th 1975, a special history of radio in Dublin programme by Derek Jones and Mike Anderson originally broadcast the previous year was aired again. This clip features Arno St Jude signing on 6260kHz and giving out the new mailing address in West London. This recording appears to be from a studio tape. A longer version (total 85mins) is available in mp3 format by clicking either part 1 (20Mb) or part 2 (20Mb). |

This,
the earliest recording we have of Radio Valleri features Derek Jones sometime
in May 1974 on 6317kHz. It was recorded in Leeds, West Yorkshire when
the signal was particularly strong. Unfortunately the remainder of the
recording with Mike Anderson, suffered from tape noise problems and was
not good enough to reproduce here. |

Many
of the early stations in Dublin helped each other out. This clip is not
Radio Valleri, but Radio Westside on one of its early transmissions on
6210kHz. It is included here as both Derek Jones and Mike Anderson were
on this particular transmission, presumably whilst Radio Valleri was off
the air. Radio Westside was operated by Dr Don who was also involved in
Radio Dublin and later Alternative Radio Dublin. This poor quality aircheck
is of Derek Jones apologising for the poor quality of the broadcast which
he hoped would improve in the coming weeks. Mike Anderson and Dr Don were
mentioned but are not heard here. |

Part of a Derek Jones show from October 1978 when Radio Valleri was settled on 6202kHz. By this time, the station address had changed to the well known FRC Ireland mailing address. This recording was off-air and recorded local to the transmission site. |
