Some photos taken during a visit to Cork in 1982 and 1983.

Above, the mast at the site of the 10kw transmitter and below, the mast and transmitter building at the original AM site not far from the airport.



The transmitter room, at the 10kW MW site.The said 10kw transmitter below, in the good days of 1983, when all was well. The signal travelled well over Europe, normally on 1557, but was occasionally heard on 1566.


 

 

The power supply to the 10kW transmitter following an ESB fault, which as you can see, caused the health of the apparatus to be questioned; There was rumour around at the time, that there was a deliberate surge in the electricity supply to put the station off the air.
