FILES FROM COMMUNITY RADIO YOUGHAL |
COMMUNITY RADIO YOUGHAL was a regular station in the UK and other parts of Europe when they were on clear channel 1512kHz at night time. Here on this audio page, I have included the few recordings of CRY which we have from their pirate radio days pre December 1988. Many were recorded over a long distance from the transmitter and are of night time dx quality, but actually, pretty good night time AM signals considering. The two files from August 1981 were recorded from our visit to the station, but were made using two separate recorders. So take your pick as the saying goes. Gary's is somewhat longer, as he was geared up to record from the car radio. My own recording, from a c120, was made using a radio inside the car, and if you remember what AM radio stations were like on a portable inside a car!! You had to be nearer the transmitter for the signal to be worth recording!! The file from July 1981 was recorded in the Cork area by Kevin O'Sullivan. In 1986, only a single 45m recording is available from that tour by Steve West, recorded during our visit to the station. The 1988 recordings were made whilst attending a wedding in Ballycotton, Co Cork. These were probably recorded from a MW radio cassette or something, and is a little bit hissy. I know I had a Grundig Satellit receiver with me. But did I trundle my own cassette deck in the plane? And on the long journey from Dublin to Cork by bus?? Maybe?? I shall have to think about that one!! I really don't think I did, otherwise I would have had recordings from Dublin. I only have tapes of the Monaghan stations, recorded on "Owen;s" hifi I think, and a couple from CRY recorded on goodness knows what.... There are other recordings made by Gary from Ballycotton 1988, and he may well have had a frame antenna with him?? At any rate they are a little better than my own ones.. (KB.. July 2014) |
