1981 VISIT TO BIG L

BIG L - LIMERICK

BIG L was heard around the HF end of the MW band, at various times. It is difficult to say after so many years have passed exactly when many of the earlier pirates closed their door. The station was listed in the AUK lists for 1984, but by May 1985 it had gone. But the BIG L story tells us it closed in April 1985.

Below, a BIG L QSL card although it is really a so called non data card, like those sent out by the BBC World Service, and Deutsche Welle to save staff time filling in the desired date, time and freq, tx power and location etc that mw dxers desire. But a very nice card it was. The last remaining link with Radio London, was of course in name only.

A full detailed story of BIG L Limerick is now on line, written by Mike Richardson. This was only discovered thanks to an email from Mike in July 2014!!
