ABC broadcast to the Cork area on 233m MW during 1978 - 79. Exact dates are uncertain at this time, but Patrick in Cork provides the start up date as early summer 1978. Chris Stevens / Steve Bolger left CBC to form Alternative Boadcasting Cork. The station was first listed in the August / September 1978 issue of Sounds Alternative. It would appear that it wasn't on the air in July 1979 when Dave Small visited Cork, although as we know sometimes for technical reasons, a station could have been off the air. ABC was never heard by any of us in the UK, though who knows what dxers in SW England or Wales may have heard. 233m may have been 1286kHz, 1287 after November 1978, but it is uncertain which "channel" ABC really used. Many of the stations announced wildly different wavelengths to that which they were on!! 1287 had the powerhouse international service of Radio Prague on it at that time. |
