Radio Impact was a very entertaining SW radio station which operated during 1979 and 1980 and was based in North West England. The station initially operated on 7474kHz, as well as later becoming part of the 7340 network with WMR, WLS and Radio Free City. Jeff Stuart and TW were the main presenters, with input from "Hans Marsbar" and frequent mentions of the tea lady and the cleaning lady. Jeff was in touch a few years ago, and sent a couple of current day photos from recent times, around 2005. We were told by Jeff that we could use these images after all these years. So thanks for the contribution guys, and putting a face to the voices on the radio of thirty years ago!!!. You can download the RADIO IMPACT SHOWTAPE below. The showtape was I think 50p from the station back in 1980, and is a great insight into the sound of Radio Impact, over forty years ago. |
Two 7340kHz QSL cards from either end of 1979, the second signed by both Jeff Stuart and TW.

The modulation quality on this broadcast was particularly good, but another transmitter kept switching on the same frequency causing a wobble and hum. |

1980_02_10_sun_impact_7340sw_from_studio_copy_pt1-js.mp3 New Oct 2023 | Sign on with TW and apologising that the broadcast was a week late. Recording is from the old studio tape and is by kind courtesy of Jeff Stuart. Unfortunately there is a lot of speed issues / fluttering with the tape which sounds like it might have been chewed in places. |

This show was supposed to be broadcast on 2nd November, but heard a week late. Also, it was received on 7325kHz rather than the announced 7340kHz. 11400kHz in the 26metre band was also announced. Recorded in Leeds from 7325kHz. There are some fades and a slight whistle and morse in places. |

80xxxx_radio_impact_showtape.mp3 | The Radio Impact Show Tape produced for listeners around 1980. It gives an idea of how well the station sounded. Probably the best produced shortwave shows on the band in the late 1970s and early 1980s. | 25MB 19mins |
