Toxteth Community Radio was heard with test transmissions in early April 1989 on 104.9MHz and is thought to have continued broadcasting until around 1991. The station put out a good signal across Merseyside and although mainly reggae and soul, had a varied music format, including some Arabic and Somali programmes.  Once the legal KFM came on the air in Manchester on the same frequency, the TCR signal coverage became more limited.
