RADIO JACKIE NORTH 2010 TRIBUTE - 217m (1386kHz)

Following the passing of Eric, tribute broadcasts were aired on FM in 2004 and subsequent years. Recordings of some of those programmes can be heard on MERSEYPIRATES.COM. In 2010 another tribute was aired, this time announcing the original Radio Jackie North wavelength of 217m. Central Radio International also helped, by relaying the broadcast on FM and on shortwave.

The signal on 217m / 1386kHz covered the North West of England quite well. It was as close to the original 1395kHz frequency of Radio Jackie North as possible. Radio Tirana was still causing the same issues in 2010 as it was in the days of Radio Jackie North. Eric usually had to change channels in Winter to avoid the powerful 500kW of Radio Tirana which was also off channel at times. He usually opted for 1413kHz, but sometimes 1404kHz.

The first three files below were recorded off 1386kHz near Blackpool.

Most of the weekend was recorded from the web stream.

RADIO JACKIE NORTH 2011 TRIBUTE - 191m (1575kHz)

In 2011 a further tribute was aired on AM, this time using 1575kHz / 191m.
The previous years' frequency had to be changed due to Ofcom allocating
1386kHz to the nearby Hospital Radio station Radio Clatterbridge.
With the entire AM band available, was it deliberately put on 1386kHz.

The signal on 191m / 1575kHz covered Merseyside, but not quite as wide an area as the previous year.
There were a few issues with the AM service, and it was not on for the entire broadcast.

We have dug out the files below of the Sunday broadcast which were all recorded from the web stream.
There are some gaps as the stream occasionally dropped out at the recording location.
It was the early days of streaming in reasonable quality after all.

2011_11_20_sun_rjn_tribute_www_0950-1125_signon_ericmonaghan.mp3 Eric Monaghan opens up the day's broadcast at 10am.
2011_11_20_sun_rjn_tribute_www_1125-1300_ericmonaghan_johnfreeman.mp3 Eric finishes his show and is followed at mid-day by John Freeman with a live show. John comments about the AM having gone off at 11:10am, and the engineers were working hard to get it back on the air.
2011_11_20_sun_rjn_tribute_www_1300-1435_johnfreeman_daverodgers.mp3 John Freeman is followed by Dave Rodgers at 2pm.  Just before John finishes his show, he announces 1575kHz is back on.
2011_11_20_sun_rjn_tribute_www_1435-1610_daverodgers_stevemartin.mp3 Steve Martin follows Dave Rodgers at 4pm.
2011_11_20_sun_rjn_tribute_www_1610-1705_stevemartin.mp3 Continuing with Steve Martin, until the stream cuts out around 5:05pm.
2011_11_20_sun_rjn_tribute_www_1728-1902_stevemartin_pauljay.mp3 With the stream back around 5:30pm, Steve Martin can be heard until 6pm when Paul Jay takes over.
2011_11_20_sun_rjn_tribute_www_1902-1927_pauljay.mp3 Just another 30 mins from Paul Jay as we lose the stream again for about 15 minutes around 7:30pm.
2011_11_20_sun_rjn_tribute_www_1942-2047_pauljay_leemorrison.mp3 The stream returns for the last 20 minutes of Paul Jay.  Lee Morrison is on at 8pm with his 'Progressive Rock and Beyond' tribute for Rick Dane. The stream cuts out around 8:45pm.
2011_11_20_sun_rjn_tribute_www_2110-2245_leemorrison_jackie_rodger.mp3 With the stream back again at 9:10pm, Lee finishes his show at 10pm, when Jackie Frost and Rodger Dee host a live show together.
2011_11_20_sun_rjn_tribute_www_2245-signoff_jackiefrost_rodgerdee.mp3 Up to the RJN tribute sign off at just after midnight with Jackie and Rodger.
