CRYSTAL (or KRISTAL) RADIO - (CHORLEY) 1242kHz

Crystal Radio (or Krystal Radio ?) was heard in the Chorley area on 1242kHz from around October 1984. It is not certain of this was the same operator as a Chorley Community Radio heard durinng the Summer of 1984. In early November, Crystal Radio went off the air, believed to be for security reasons during the time of a surge in DTI raids in Merseyside and Manchester, and it is not known if they ever returned as the frequency of 1242kHz was used from December 1984 by Radio Merseywaves.

1984_11_04_sun_crystal_1242am_1130-1304_dave_alandale-gh249.mp3 New Feb 2024 This is the only recording we have of Crystal Radio and is not the best quality with the audio levels being a bit variable. As received near Blackpool on 1242kHz where there was some splattering from Boyneside Radio North on the next channel of 1233kHz. The recording from Sunday 4th November 1984 starts at around 11:30am with Dave and then Alan Dale from mid-day. The station has some good adverts and jingles an there is an amusing station promo after about 18 minutes based on the Hovis ad. 87MB

Passion FM put out a huge signal across Lancashire in early 1997, covering a similar area to the legal Radio Wave which broadcast from Blackpool Tower.  They operated at the weekend and specialised in a variety of soul music. They were raided in 1997, the same day as Fresh FM, both being located in the North Shore area of Blackpool.

Passion FM had a web page on which they displayed their weekend schedule
