ANORAKS UK WEEKLY REPORTS So here they are - the complete set of "Anoraks UK Weekly Reports", scanned and uploaded during June and July 2012, all one and a half gig of them!! The ANORAKS UK WEEKLY REPORT had it's humble beginnings as a single page news sheet, keeping readers up to date after the raids in Ireland during May 1983. (Except for an even shorter "notes" type page) The AUK report was THE definitive news sheet in the late 1980's, and carried logs from Ireland, Offshore, Landbased around the UK, as well as SW logs. Many radio stations received these weekly blurbs as well, and it was sort of like a newsheet for the trade. Reading through many of the sheets as they were scanned, facts and figures, dates, who was where, and when all jump out at you. At that time, when all these facts and figures were going on, it seemed like "everyone in the radio world" knew what was going on at all times. There was certainly a lot happening compared to today's stagnated radio scene. Now that historically, it is 27 years or more down the line since all these reports were news, time has been taken to archive and make public the hard work put in by the AUK team each week. The writer is even proud to say that on the then fairly frequent visits to the AUK team, a Sunday evening was spent folding and stuffing envelopes, before a well earned drink!! Files have been created on a per month basis, with either 4 or 5 issues per pdf file. This makes the pdf files rather large, but by today's city broadband speeds, and dual and quad core machines, it it minimal. Files sizes are kept large to preserve quality, which should certainly be good enough to make decent quality reprints, if required. File sizes are approx, as small changes may be made to the files from time to time. Pages that contain material which is at 90 degrees to the rest of the text, ie turned around and maybe reduced on the photo copier to squeeze more text in, has been left in the original state. I could also have changed the pink and blue versions to white, but thought to be authentic, I would leave them as they were. Up until issue 18, the old FOOLSCAP size was used for the sheets, which of course never fitted into any of the more common A4 folders or albums..LOL.. I seem to remember a lot of the old foolscap size documents becoming easily damaged due to sticking out of albums etc... The older reports are showing their age, although darkened a little to bring up the faded text from the original old typewriter and duplicator!! Thanks to Ian and Matt for the assistance with the missing images. It seems that some people kept their collections much neater than I did!! Matt found what turned out to be issue 1, which was initially thought to pre date the reports. One more comment. The press cuttings, at one time called "The Cuttings Club" will be published separately. In those days, pirate radio was rarely out of the papers somewhere in the UK or Ireland, and AUK produced a separate sheet containing press cuttings from that week. This became a nightmare to enclose cuttings with some envelopes and not others, and was finally incorporated within the Weekly Report subscriptions for everyone. |
How
many of the Anoraks UK ads below do YOU remember??
THE WEEKLY REPORTS
ISSUE 010-017 1984 (16,220k pdf) The above file includes the issues from 10 to 17 up until September 1984. The report was issued weekly as of Issue 15. |
ISSUE 018-022_SEPTEMBER 1984 (18,022k pdf) The above files from September 1984, were small issues, like A5 size, four pages, so they are presented slightly differently, but still ready to reprint if required. |
ISSUE 023-027_OCTOBER 1984 (19,471k pdf) The above files from October 1984, were small issues, like the September editions. This style of presentation allows reprints on both sides of a sheet, much like the original, although maybe more of a pain to read in sequence, as the back page is along with the front page etc... Maybe they should be split to single sheets?? It was a time saver for us though..lol |
ISSUE 028-030_NOVEMBER 1984 (19,471k pdf) The above files from November 1984, were small issues, A5?? November was the pink and then blue phase!! |
ISSUE 031-034_DECEMBER 1984 (19,575k pdf) The above files from December 1984, were small issues, A5, and this was the BLUE phase. Luckily the paper changed to more easy on the eye black on white at the end of December. |
ISSUE 035_DECEMBER 1984 (5,172k pdf) The above file is the first of the AUK report size that was familiar and remembered by most folks I guess. |
Weekly Cuttings Sheets Were Produced From Issue 50
NB: THE FINAL ISSUE - ISSUE 278 - 9th September 1989
