When Bert
Williams parted company with Merseyland Alternative Radio in June 1980, he
went on to operate his own station, as he had done for many years
before. This time he named it Merseyside Music Radio. It
transmitted on 1170kHz and was announced as 259m. Here are some
recordings from September and October that year. Bert did a
'live' documentary about the history of pirate radio on Merseyside and
explained why he had decided to leave MAR. The original
documentary appeared to have gone out on 6th September 1980 as
references were made to MAR being off the air that weekend due to
staff holidays. The documentary recording here was from a repeat
on 5th October 1980. |
