The photographs here were kindly supplied by Phil Hilton. They were taken whilst travelling around the various transmitter sites with station owner Sean Coyne, who spent much of his time keeping the many transmitters on the air. There were many FM transmitters of varying powres, from Dublin across to Galway, covering the various towns. The main AM transmitter was located just South of Mullingar and was the former Radio Nova Gates 10kW. There was also a smaller AM outlet in Galway. |
The main AM transmitter
site was located in a field South of Mullingar.
The power came from a generator, and when fuel was low, the power was
apparently turned down so it would last longer.

This was originally used by Radio Nova on 846kHz at the Greenacres Country
Club in Dublin.
The FM receiver
which linked the studio with the main AM transmission site, and
the Optimod audio processor which gave the AM signal its excellent sound quality.
