NORTH ATLANTIC RADIO HOME PAGE
North Atlantic Radio photos taken during a visit to the station in April 1993. At that time, they were just back on the air following a raid at their Quiggley's point site. Their co sited MW and FM 103.9 transmitters had been taken. The station was back on the air, yet not at the studio in Bridge Street, Carndonagh. Neither were they coming from the site at Quiggleys Point. But memories of an old Radio North site were still fresh from a 1991 visit, and a drive to the remote site paid off. As we drove down the lane, "Tommy" and "Francis" were both standing chatting with another fellow, as a strange vehicles approached them. There was relief on their faces as mad radio enthusiasts from across the water jumped out, and not the expected less than welcome visitors that had recently been at Quiggley's Point. The studio was in a temporary place next to the mw transmitter, which was one of the amazing flat transmitters, built on an old bit of wood. The Radio North "graffiti" was still up on the wall from the past. But at the time, Radio North was not on the air. At that time, only North Atlantic Radio and Riverside 101 kept the flag flying from County Donegal. There are no photos of the studio for some reason. Maybe we were asked not to take any because it was so temporary. I do recall being met at the door by a goat though!!! Below are a series of photos of the transmitter in use at the time. A 2 by 2 813 rig, and it sounded well..... It was always great to see these beasts in action. Each one was it's very own masterpiece, and the modulation transformer singing away nice and loudly to the audio of the station. |
