VISIT TO RADIO CAROL ANN
| Radio Carol-Ann was a
new station to us when we reached the Athlone area,
and none of us had heard it in the UK. They were heard on 1125kHz /
265m and although announced as Radio Carol-Ann, there were also
jingles for Midland Radio
1133kHz. So maybe they were in a transition. I don't think we met Carol Ann!!!!
According to listings in the FRC Newsletter 'Sounds Alternative', there had been a previous
Midland Radio in 1978 and 1979, also operating on 265m, and we are unsure if there was any link with that.
One unusual thing about Radio Carol-Ann was it asking for requests
by listening out on CB channel 1.
We hadn't heard this arrangement on any other station. Radio Carol-Ann was last reported during 1982.

| 1981_08_16_sun_carol-ann_1125am_1520-1541_airchecks_markanthony-gh359.mp3 New Sep 2026 | Recorded in the car, on the move, during our first Irish radio trip of discovery, this is a few minutes of airchecks of Mark Anthony from Sunday afternoon 16th August 1981 recorded off 1125kHz whilst driving from Radio North West in Drumshanbo, so a few fades and crackles as we approached Athlone. In fact we were originaly heading from Drumshanbo to Galway, but picked up a weak signal on 1125kHz and eventually tracked it to Athlone. |

The recording ends with Jimmy Dean as we headed on the road towards Limerick. Unfortunately by that time we didn't have time to call in at Galway. |
